Wendy's Story

Wendy is a born and bred Torontonian - the first in her family to be born in Canada. Her family were among the first Portuguese immigrants being welcomed into Canada in the 1950’s. Wendy was raised in English because her parents came here when they were quite young. But she eventually learned Portuguese as an adult. Aujourd'hui elle parle aussi le français, anche un pocatino d`Italiano e unas palabras de español.

Though Wendy’s parents divorced when she was a child, she acquired a whole new family when her Dad, Jose, moved to the US, married Fanny, and had 2 sons. Caleb lives in Florida with his wife Melissa and have just welcomed Giada Sofia into the world on August 26.  Jose and Mary live in a picturesque North Carolina city with their beautiful 5 year old son Sam who has been presented with some challenges in life.  Sam was born with Angelman's Syndrome, a little known genetic disorder that causes developmental delays among other things. However, he is a wonderful little boy, happy, loving and energetic and is doing great in his new school.

Wendy loves being a homeowner in the Toronto neighbourhood known as Bloordale Village in the Wallace-Emerson neighbourhood. She also enjoys political activism, travelling, reading, listening to music, puttering around in her garden and her wonderful kitty-cats, Trouble, Peppy, Xena and the various stray cats she feeds year round.

Wendy has been open to new experiences and over several years was involved in federal politics. She was a candidate in the Toronto riding of Davenport during two federal elections. She feels that we get the government we deserve when we do not stay informed and aware of what government at all levels is doing and what it means for us.  You can see her in a documentary filmed while she was politically active for Canadian Action Party.  The Nation's Deathbed is a film about the loss of civil liberties and police state activities during the 3 Amigos (Bush, Harper and Calderon) Summit in Montebello, Quebec in 2007.

Prior to becoming a Realtor®, Wendy spent an amazing year learning French, travelling and partying through France... Some of her fondest memories are of people and places she got to know during that time.

Wendy had also worked for the Canadian Human Rights Commission for a few years and TVOntario for 10 more in various areas including Finance, Audience Relations and French production with what is now known as TFO.

Wendy is grateful for the friendships she made during these years which endure to this day.

Wendy feels that when your mind and heart are open to change wonderful things can happen.  So that’s why in 1995, a year after Wendy’s Mum opened a franchise of Canadian-owned Sutton Group on College Street, decided maybe she should give real estate a try.  Eventually she went on to become a broker as well.

Wendy enjoys being self-employed, even though there are ups and downs and nothing is guaranteed. Through the years she has established splendid contacts and clients who have become friends just about everywhere. Repeat and referral clients are the cornerstone of her business. Just as important are the new clients who come to her from her listings on the MLS® system or through her networking.

Wendy believes that part of the reason she has been successful is that she treats people the way that she would like to be treated and that actions speak WAY louder than words. She really enjoys helping people as they venture into what is likely the biggest investment they will ever make.

Although in 2000 Wendy had the opportunity to take over and manage her Mum’s brokerage when she retired; she preferred the freedom of working with buyers and sellers to the responsibility involved in managing an office. She has never once regretted this decision.

For a number of years Wendy has run her business right from her home office and 13 year old BMW – which, she maintains is still as beautiful as the day she first got it. She loves cruising around with her clients – especially in the summer!
